BETTER BELFAST
The Landfill Communities Fund
The fund was launched in 1996, as the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme, providing an opportunity to meaningfully invest in community action, whilst supporting waste minimisation and local environmental improvement.
Partners
Bryson Charitable Group proposed a unique approach, which created a real partnership with Belfast City Council.
Since 1999, the Better Belfast Programme has distributed more than £4.9million, impacting significantly on the development of policy within waste management, whilst making a substantial contribution to improving the City's environment.
Better Belfast has been widely recognised as one of the UK's leading examples of best practice in Landfill Communities Fund distribution, which involves a local authority and supports a local development strategy.
With an increasing number of local authorities using the Dargan Road landfill site, Better Belfast is now distributing grants in a number of local authority areas in Northern Ireland. Check out the Operational Area.
LANDFILL COMMUNITIES FUND GRANTS PROGRAMME 2007
The final grants programme was launched in 2007 and seen the final distribution of funds to organisations for projects. The fund will close permanently at the end of 2008, when all outstanding projects have been completed.
